Is Michael Bay Set To Return As Director For A New “Transformers” Film?

Michael Bay is my favorite all-time director, but I wish he had stopped making Transformers films after the third and directed Hard R action comedies like the Bad Boys series or Pain And Gain. And who can't dream of seeing a crossover between The Rock and Armageddon?
Michael Bay is making a high-octane comeback to the “Transformers” franchise. After directing five explosive entries between 2007 and 2017—including box-office juggernauts like Transformers: Dark of the Moon—Bay stepped away, allowing the series to explore new creative directions.
Now, Puck News reports Bay is officially developing a new “Transformers” movie with Paramount Pictures, not only as a producer but also potentially returning to the director’s chair. He has enlisted Jordan VanDina (Animaniacs, Dodgeball 2) to pen the script.
Bay’s return follows a stretch of underwhelming franchise entries.
While 2018’s Bumblebee earned critical praise, it grossed only $468 million—well below Bay’s weakest-performing film, The Last Knight ($605 million). Last year’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts performed worse, and the animated Transformers One bombed outright.
The revived momentum comes as Skydance and David Ellison eye Paramount’s future slate, including multiple Transformers projects. Transformers One director Josh Cooley is also onboard for a new live-action installment, and a potential G.I. Joe/Transformers crossover remains in early development.
Former cast like Shia LaBeouf, Mark Wahlberg, and Josh Duhamel are unknown if returning. It would be a good way to bring Megan Fox back into the series after she left after the second film when producer Steven Spielberg fired her after she compared Bay to Hitler.
Whether Bay’s renewed involvement reshapes these plans remains unclear. No release date has been announced, but Paramount has several years to act before franchise rights lapse. Comment below with your thoughts.
