What is your favorite John Woo film?
Sad news is out of Paramount Pictures as one of my favorite films, 'Face/Off', has lost director Adam Wingard (Godzilla vs. Kong) for its sequel. What really sucks about this is Wingard was a big fan of the original made by John Woo, and he made it clear that Nicolas Cage and John Travolta would be back to play terrorist Castor Troy and FBI agent Sean Archer.
Not in cameo roles or to usher in new characters, but full on, they are the focus. Wingard left the film last summer, which is surprising as he seemed fully ready to tackle it, as he said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2024. “I don’t want to get too much into the weeds on the 'Face/Off' thing, but yeah, I think the script is really fu_king awesome. It is one of those things where you read it, and you’re like, ‘Oh, shit! This is a true sequel to Face/Off that I could have never dreamed of.'”
The film came out in 1997 and made $247 million worldwide, and I think it's time for John Woo to come back and do it. If not, maybe time to put a pin on it if they bring in someone who doesn't love the first film. Maybe I could direct it.
