What is your favorite Sci-Fi show filmed in Vancouver?

A new 'Stargate' television series has been given the green light by Amazon Prime. It is being created by Martin Gero (Blindspot, Quantum Leap), and produced by the original film's writer and director, Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich.

Gero released this statement: “Twenty years ago, my first real job in television was as a Story Editor on ‘Stargate: Atlantis. I spent five years at the franchise working across all three series, ‘Stargate’ taught me everything about making television — it’s written into my DNA. I’m beyond thrilled that Amazon MGM Studios has entrusted me with guiding this incredible franchise into its next phase. For those who’ve kept the gate active through conventions, rewatches, and unwavering faith — this one’s for you. And for those that are new to our world — I promise you’re in for something extraordinary.”

The original film came out in 1994, starring Kurt Russell and James Spader as Colonel Jack O'Neil and Dr. Daniel Jackson. A spinoff series, 'Stargate SG-1' started filming in Vancouver in 1997, where Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks took over the respective roles. It also starred Amanda Tapping and Christopher Judge. The series lasted ten years and was followed by two TV movies and four spinoff series: 'Stargate Atlantis' (2004-2009), 'Stargate Universe' (2009-2011), web series 'Stargate Origins' (2018), and animated series 'Stargate Infinity' (2002-2003).

'Stargate Origins' is the only series that wasn't filmed in Vancouver, and there is no word yet on where the new show will be filmed. I've checked every news source and have asked both Gero and Devlin on Instagram with no response, and will update if that changes. I'm scared they will try to be cheaper by going to Eastern Europe or something, but hopefully, having the same crew and locations will be the deciding factor in favour of Vancouver.

Nick Pepper of Amazon MGM Studios also released this statement: “‘Stargate’ is an enduring, iconic franchise that has captivated audiences for decades with its bold exploration of humanity’s place in the cosmos. In partnership with our extraordinary creative team of Martin, Tory, and Joby, we’re honored to open this next gate to bring a visionary new chapter of this beloved franchise to our global Prime Video audience, one that honors the series’ rich legacy while propelling it into an ambitious and emotionally resonant future.”
