Paul Walker's Brothers Won't Play Brian In Final "Fast & Furious" Film
Which is your favorite 'Fast & Furious' film?
Sad news for fans hoping Paul Walker's Brian O'Connor will appear in the upcoming final film in the 'Fast & Furious' franchise, as his brother Cody Walker told Entertainment Weekly he has no desire for him or his brother Caleb to step in to digitally replace him, as they did on 'Furious 7' after Paul's death in 2013.
"My stance is, it’s what Meadow wants to see done; it’s her father. I would not be interested in doing that again. I love the way his character exited the franchise. They didn’t kill him off, they didn’t do something cheesy like that. It’s beautiful, [Brian] is off raising his kids. But if they want to do that, if Meadow would like to see that, they don’t need me or Caleb. AI was not a thing back in 2014, so they could do that. There’s years of footage that was never used from these other Fast films. They’re the best in the business, they can figure that out."
The final film is in development hell with Universal Studios demanding a major budget cut from the script, as the previous entry 'Fast X' in 2023 ballooned to a $340 million production cost not including advertising. Vin Diesel has claimed the script is the best he's ever read, but director Louis Leterrier hasn't seen it. Another huge issue is the film ended on a cliffhanger where Diesel's Dominic Toretto was driving with his eight-year-old son down an exploding dam. How will they account for the fact that the son has aged five years?
I'm all for the Brian character returning. It's obvious that the last few films were missing something, and to me Paul Walker was always more important than Diesel to the franchise. Compare '2 Fast 2 Furious,' which Diesel sat out, to the last few films.
