What is the best superhero entrance scene?
Director Jon Watts has revealed that Reddit fans forced a major creative shift in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Initially, the plan was to reintroduce Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men during an emotional rooftop scene following Aunt May’s death. However, when Watts discovered fan-made art on Reddit that perfectly predicted this moment, he pivoted.
“I was like, ‘We can’t do that. If that’s exactly what everyone thinks we’re going to do, we absolutely can’t do that,’” Watts shared at the Mediterrane Film Festival. The solution? Introduce the iconic duo in a completely unexpected location, Ned’s grandmother’s house. “No one’s going to see that coming,” Watts said.
The change not only preserved the element of surprise but also added a light-hearted, memorable twist that contrasted the emotional weight of the storyline.
Writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers praised Maguire and Garfield’s contributions, noting how their input added emotional depth to Holland’s Peter Parker arc. Their characters helped guide Holland’s Spider-Man through a crucial moral turning point, shaping the film’s impactful climax.
With Spider-Man: Brand New Day now close to filming, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, fans are eager to see where the multiverse webslinger adventure swings next. Comment below with your thoughts.
