Kieran Culkin Throws Shade At Jeremy Strong’s ‘Storyteller’ Comment
It seems the Succession drama isn't over for co-stars Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong — this time, it’s off-screen. Known for his “method acting” approach, Jeremy Strong often sparks controversy with his intense dedication to his craft. His recent comment about actors being "storytellers" raised eyebrows and provided the perfect setup for Kieran Culkin to share a candid take.
In a roundtable discussion, Jeremy earnestly stated, “There’s a role for storytelling that is so essential. The responsibility we have as storytellers is something I’ll never forget.” The following day, Kieran appeared in Variety’s Actors on Actors alongside Colman Domingo, where he offered his unfiltered thoughts.
“I sort of object to... when actors call themselves storytellers. I don’t really like that. Sorry, Jeremy,” Kieran said bluntly. He elaborated, explaining that he believes the actual storytelling comes from writers like Jesse Eisenberg, with actors supporting that vision rather than leading it. “We’re all helping him,” Culkin noted. “If you’re aware of the story you’re trying to tell, that’s not really your job.”
Fans quickly took to social media, divided over who was right. Some applauded Kieran for his down-to-earth approach, calling him “so real for this.” Others defended Jeremy, arguing that every performer contributes to the storytelling process. One user summed it up best: “They both can be right... Whatever gets the best performance.”
Despite the shade, there's no real feud here. Many pointed out that Jeremy and Kieran share mutual respect and have even expressed a desire to work together again. After all, both methods clearly work — Succession wouldn’t be the hit it is without their award-winning performances.
