My favorite Taylor Sheridan show is Tulsa King but for the first few seasons Yellowstone was firing on all cylinders before all his other new shows came onto the scene and stretched his attention.
Well now the Yellowstone universe may soon be expanding onto broadcast TV, with CBS reportedly exploring a new spinoff starring Luke Grimes. Known for his portrayal of Kayce Dutton — former Navy SEAL turned livestock commissioner — Grimes is in talks to reprise the role in a series being developed by SEAL Team showrunner Spencer Hudnut.
Though no formal deal is in place, sources say the procedural-style spinoff has been in quiet development for over a year. The concept is expected to spotlight Kayce’s military background, potentially blending Western grit with high-stakes action. Taylor Sheridan, the franchise's architect, has reportedly given his blessing, and Grimes is close to committing to a return to network television.
If greenlit, the show would mark a return of Yellowstone to CBS, where earlier seasons aired during the Hollywood strikes. It also strengthens Paramount Global’s cross-platform strategy, echoing similar moves like the NCIS franchise branching into Paramount+.
This potential new chapter joins a growing roster of Yellowstone content, including The Madison (starring Michelle Pfeiffer), as well as prequel series 1883 and 1923. Another spinoff featuring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser was also announced late last year.
Fans of Kayce Dutton can look forward to deeper exploration of his character—especially after the original Yellowstone finale saw him cede the family land under strict preservation terms, retreating with Monica and Tate to a small homestead.
Whether CBS will officially bring this spinoff to life remains to be seen, but the idea of a broadcast-friendly, Navy SEAL-tinged Western drama is already stirring excitement.
