Anxiety can come in from nowhere and hit you like a missile and overwhelm your body in terror. Now imagine that while performing in front of thousands of people and millions on television.

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has opened up about a hidden personal battle he faced during his legendary wrestling career — agoraphobia.

Speaking on Busted Open Master’s Class, the 16-time world champion revealed the intense anxiety he experienced while on the road. “I had agoraphobia. It’s when you’re afraid to leave the room,” Flair said. “I used to have to drive to the airport, and I’m biting myself because I couldn’t feel my fingers. I’d be in the ring and I couldn’t feel my hands. Anxiety is brutal.”

Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder that involves fear of situations where escape might be difficult, often triggered by crowds, open spaces, or traveling. For a global wrestling icon constantly in the spotlight, the condition added another layer of difficulty to an already demanding career.

Flair’s revelation highlights the unseen mental health struggles even the most confident performers can face. Despite the burden, “The Nature Boy” continued to entertain millions, delivering unforgettable moments that defined professional wrestling for decades.

His courage in sharing this struggle is a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness, especially in high-pressure industries like sports entertainment.
