The beloved series is set for a revival with Brooke and Peyton facing new challenges — and new generations.

After a surprise leak in August about One Tree Hill’s long-anticipated sequel on Netflix, Sophia Bush is sharing updates and her excitement for what’s ahead. The actress, best known for her role as Brooke Davis, is back on board with co-star Hilarie Burton Morgan to lead the series, set 20 years after the original show’s 2012 finale.

In a recent interview with Access, Bush expressed disappointment that development news was leaked early. “It’s unfortunate when development news leaks early. That was a bit of a bummer for us,” she said. “We wanted to get it across the finish line and then have a party.”

Despite the early reveal, Bush remains enthusiastic about revisiting One Tree Hill. Acting as executive producer alongside Burton Morgan, she described the process as “really incredible” and acknowledged the unwavering dedication of the show’s fans. “The fans have kept that show alive, and they’ve asked for it for so long,” she noted.

The upcoming sequel will focus on Brooke and Peyton, now parents to teenagers, as they navigate familiar challenges of love, insecurities, and loss. For Bush, the chance to revisit these characters is an opportunity for growth and nostalgia. “Beginning to figure out how we might tell these stories and reunite our whole ragtag bunch feels really, really amazing,” she added.

When the news broke, Bush and Burton Morgan celebrated with a heartfelt statement: “What if you really can go back home? There’s only one Tree Hill, after all. And you — the OTHfam — have shown us that it really is the place where ‘everything’s better and everything’s safe.’”

The sequel is in development with Becky Hartman Edwards as writer and executive producer, and Danneel and Jensen Ackles producing through their Chaos Machine banner. While details are still unfolding, fans can expect a story that honors the spirit of the original series while exploring new dynamics and challenges.

However, one big question remains: Will Chad Michael Murray, who played Lucas Scott, return? Given that Bush and Murray were previously married and went through a public divorce, his involvement remains uncertain. The sequel appears to center on Brooke and Peyton’s friendship rather than Lucas’s storyline, potentially leaving his character out of the revival.
