Netflix Auditioning Productions Companies To Make A "Monopoly" Reality Show

Do you know what a bake-off is in the film industry? No, it's not about a competition between the Grips and Locations departments on a film set to see who can get the most high. It's where production companies audition to produce reality shows for streamers or networks.
Netflix is now in the middle of a bake-off for a reality show game based on Monopoly, with around 40 production companies now vying to be chosen to produce. These companies were invited or pre-approved by executives and have to sign a two-page contract waiving any back-end rights. When they get to the final 15 companies, they will come in and pitch, hoping to be selected. No, don't do it. It's a trap, you're probably thinking.
Jeff Gaspin, head of unscripted at Netflix, said this to Deadline on how the $5 billion success (with 150 million downloads) of the Monopoly Go mobile game made them pass Go without a pitch:
“There’s a gameplay in Monopoly Go! that I think really will resonate with gameplay in an unscripted series,” he said. “The idea itself is still up for grabs. How do we want to approach it? Is it a giant game board? Is it in the real world? We don’t have the answer and we had so many agents and so many production companies reaching out and asking us if they can participate, and asking if we’ll consider putting them in the bake-off that we didn’t want to be restrictive. So, we said, ‘Why don’t we do a first round that’s pretty broad.'”
Netflix previously had bake-offs for the Willy Wonka series 'The Golden Ticket' and Meghan Markle's 'With Love, Meghan.' It remains unseen if this will be on the scale of 'Squid Game' or MrBeast's 'Beast Games.' I pick Alec Baldwin to host the show. If he can play one maniacal real estate tycoon, why can't he do another? Comment below with your thoughts.
