Whose your favorite NFL player? If your a Taylor Swift fan then most likely it's Patrick Mahomes. For everyone that lives in Boston and Tampa Bay then you will choose the GOAT.
In a candid reflection posted to his website, Tom Brady opened up about the difficult decision to leave the New England Patriots after 20 seasons — a choice that stemmed from growing tension with head coach Bill Belichick.
Brady revealed that the idea of leaving wasn’t a sudden decision, but one that quietly built over several years. “It was a creeping decision,” he wrote, “that lived passively in the back of my mind for 2-3 years.” By March 2020, Brady realized that change was inevitable, citing a natural divergence between his goals, Belichick’s direction, and the Patriots’ evolving strategy.
He described the tension as one that couldn’t be reconciled without a major shift. “It was the kind of tension that could only be resolved by some kind of split or one of us reassessing our priorities.”
When free agency finally arrived, Brady approached the decision analytically. He built a list of about 20 factors — including skill players, coaching, climate, and compensation — and graded each potential team. Tampa Bay came out on top, particularly because of offensive stars like Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, as well as the leadership of Bruce Arians. While money was a consideration, it wasn’t a top priority.
The move paid off: Brady won a Super Bowl with the Buccaneers in his first season and helped reshape the franchise’s legacy.
His reflection offers a rare look behind the curtain of a legendary sports partnership that, while wildly successful, was not without its friction.
